AHEPA Remembers September 11
Supreme President Carl Hollister has issued a statement on the 16th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks:
"Today, on the sixteenth anniversary of September 11th, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks against the United States. We can never forget their sacrifice and our thoughts and prayers will always be with them and their families. Their memories will be eternal.
"In times of tragedy, there are always individuals, whether they are emergency first responders or ordinary civilians, who are the first to respond. We salute and thank them for their brave acts of heroism on that fateful day in American history.
"Today is also a national day of service. AHEPA encourages the community to not only remember the victims of September 11, but to also honor their memories by participating in acts of service that help to strengthen our communities, neighborhoods, towns and cities. With millions of people affected by Hurricanes Irma and Harvey, the need for relief aid and assistance to recover and rebuild will be immense. We will do our share to help.
"Our campaign to contribute to the building of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at World Trade Center is nearing its $1 million goal. I strongly encourage the American Hellenic community to pool its resources together and rebuild the only House of Worship destroyed on September 11."
"Finally, in the spirit of the community's effort to rebuild Saint Nicholas, we share this Associated Press report, "Church lost on 9/11 rises again at World Trade Center." Please share it widely with family, friends, and colleagues.
